THE PRODIGY

MAIN STAGE
FRIDAY, 13TH OF AUGUST

The claustrophobic confines of a west London attic hideaway. Walls, covered in heavyweight purple curtains seem to bring the dimly lit room's parameters collapsing in as a huge computer screen’s wallpaper radiates the green glow of long hot summer. Its pastoral image of feudal tranquility is the room’s only window on the world. Look closer and there's a twist in this Constable painting.

UNKLE

MAIN STAGE
SATURDAY, 14TH OF AUGUST

Everything James Lavelle has created and initiated has been driven by the same irrepressible sense of curiosity and an incorruptible willingness to take risks. The music released today under the banner of UNKLE is very different from early UNKLE records. The spirit is the same.

James Lavelle was a fresh-faced fourteen-year-old when he began to travel every Sunday from Oxford, where he lived, to the Soul 2 Soul shop in London. “Soul 2 Soul were my heroes”, he says. “Them, and The Wild Bunch. It was my sort of Punk. My escape.”

GORILLAZ SOUND SYSTEM (DVJ)

MAIN STAGE
SUNDAY, 15TH OF AUGUST

G.S.S. is a multi-sense experience, featuring the music of Gorillaz mixed and remixed by DJ Kofi,  with a full visual display by official G.S.S. VJ Roland. G.S.S. percussionist Remi adds another layer to the DJ performance with a variety of live instruments, while Pauli bangs the drums, no mean feat. It’s sure to be a truly unique experience – and all sanctioned by none other than Gorillaz  bass-slayer Murdoc Niccals himself.

EVERLAST

MAIN STAGE
SATURDAY, 14TH OF AUGUST

House of Pain was a great band. And its frontman is able, even as a soloist, to seriously quake the ground, wherever he passes. Everlast aka Erik Schrody is affixing his signature over tracks of an inimitable sound style. The main line he is subject to is hip-hop, but he is erecting over it some elements of alternative, rock, American folk and sometimes blues, in a way he is the only one to do. Everlast is a musician, a singer, a МС and the author of tracks with a sound impossible to confound with whatever else.

SERJ TANKIAN

MAIN STAGE
SUNDAY, 15TH OF AUGUST

SERJ TANKIAN is an Armenian born in Lebanon. This is a multifaceted personality: he is a poet, a singer, a poly-instrumentalist, a musical producer and a political activist. You could recognize him best through his front man’s background, as a keyboardist, a guitar player and a creator of the songs for the rock group being awarded to a Grammy for the System of a Down.
His new solo project, Elect the Dead, in which he just is playing all the instruments, is an explosive way to demonstrate his political and intellectual views about the American anti/missile system.

DJ SHADOW

MAIN STAGE
SATURDAY, 14TH OF AUGUST

Don’t get it twisted. DJ Shadow is a hip-hop DJ -- at least according to an Afrika Bambaata playlist.
“Entroducing... ,” DJ Shadow’s seminal debut album, embraces Soulsonic’s M.C G.L.O.B.E.’s definition of hip-hop-“Punk rock, new wave, soul/pop music, salsa, rock & roll/calypso,
reggae, rhythm &blues.”

Shadow takes us there. “I have no problem delving into realms that -- by ’96 standards -- would never be considered hip-hop.
The last frontier of hip-hop is to go back to the extreme form of experimentation while still keeping that funk. Hip-hop has become one of the most conservation forms of music out right now.

GRANDMASTER FLASH

MAIN STAGE
SUNDAY, 15TH OF AUGUST

Joseph Saddler aka Grandmaster Flash was the first person who dared to touch the vinyl LP with his fingertips and manipulate it in a way to create a new generation of sounds. He is the one who invented the theories of Quick Mix and Clock Mix which represent different variations of scratch techniques, experimented and introduced by him for the first time in the hip-hop DJ practice. He is the first one to have had the idea to include the presence of an MC during the DJ set.
