Jazz & Blues stage at SPIRIT of Burgas

How could one organize such a stage as a part of a huge festival, his organizer Mikhail Kutzev recounts

What is the public to expect from the  Jazz & Blues stage this year?

Mikhail Kutzev: This stage’s program is highly varied and I dare to say – with a very high quality. It goes from classic jazz through the more fashionable soul and fusion trend, reaching the topical new jazz. They are all part of the three-days program. We don’t omit the blues music either, we count on the more than attractive participation of Mama's Bad Boys. I am glad to announce that many of Bulgarian topical musicians shall appear on stage, those who are very successful in other European countries and have the opportunity to submit to home public their achievements. Believe me, they are wonderful and of very high level!

Saviours And Angels

UNKLE have collaborated on a short film with director Paul Andrew Williams ("Cherry Tree Lane", "London To Brighton"). It's divided into three parts and titled "Saviours and Angels" and follows a young Romanian girl on a dark journey raising some uncomfortable issues. It features STRONG LANGUAGE, VIOLENCE AND NUDITY. Punk, Ska and other surprises on “НА ТАМНО” (“in the dark”) stage of Spirit of Burgas

Following the undoubted diversity the “НА ТАМНО” stage had offered at last edition of Spirit of Burgas festival, the stage producers had done their best to surprise their this year’s fans with good music and incredible surprises. Apart from the interesting groups, the festival visitors could enjoy themselves in the “НА ТАМНО” pavilion just next to the stage.

On the evening of August the 13 the stage shall be intonated by Bulgarian Punk&Ska rhythms. Ogi 23 shall give a start to the party followed by the Varna groups Independent, Doctor’s GoGo Band and Sub Zero Farm. After the break for all the stages because of the headliners on the main stage, the Punk&Ska evening shall go on with Q Check and Ambient Anarchist. A D.J. set shall keep the cheer up to 6 in the morning!

“The rise and rise of Dutch electronic music” this is what world’s biggest dance magazine MIX MAG wrote in a full article about the upcoming Dutch talents. There is much more to Holland than the world’s biggest trance names. This time they are bringing Techno music!
Go Dutch! is an initiative presented by Buma Cultuur and musicXport.nl. The platform has a proven track record of producing world class events, putting the spotlight on Dutch artists who are on the verge of international breakthrough from a host of booking agencies throughout the Netherlands. Go Dutch! productions are now at some of the best festivals worldwide like Creamfields, Amsterdam Dance Event, Miami Winter Music Conference and Sonar.

Serj Tankian to present his third solo album at SPIRIT of Burgas 2010

The third Serj Tankian album Imperfect Harmonies is due for release on 7th September and fans at Spirit of Burgas 2010 will be some of the first in the world to hear the new songs during his show at the festival.

The ex-vocalist of “System of a Down” has been searching for a brand new sound for his third solo album and in all 11 songs we find a mix of live and electronic instruments, with some rock and even jazz elements. There is even an orchestra featured in some songs. 

DJ Shadow presents his unique new show at SPIRIT of Burgas

DJ Shadow will not just amaze fans with his smashing drum'n'bass set, but with a real live visual show. Being a part of it, Josh Davis (aka DJ Shadow) will appear in a unique sphere, something like a giant multimedia balloon, with a visuals going across the whole stage. This will be his first live show in four years and SPIRIT of  Burgas are excited to welcome him to the stage, for a unique and revolutionary audio and visual extravaganza.

The Prodigy – the weightiest dance group of all times

The Prodigy were acknowledged as “the weightiest dance group of all times”. This consecutive super title to the first day’s headliners  at Spirit of Burgas (on August the 13) was awarded following an inquiry performed by GlobalGathering – one of the most famous electronic music festivals in the world. Earlier this year, the UK Festival Awards specified The Prodigy as the best live group.

Tell us more about your new album.

Serj Tankian: Yes, my next solo project “Imperfection Harmonies” comes out September 7th, worldwide. And The musical, Prometheus Bound, I’m working on opens early March 2011 at the American Repertory Theater at Harvard, in Boston.

FESTIVAL LINE-UP

Less than a month left until the start of the SPIRIT of Burgas 2010. The third edition of the festival, recognized by the Times as one of the 20 best festival destinations in the world will be take place from 13th to 15th August on the picture-perfect white sands of the city's central beach.

The line-up is now finalized and this year’s event will feature over 100 acts across 7 stages, showcasing the best local and regional artists alongside top international acts including; The Prodigy, Unkle, Serj Tankian, Everlast, Gorillaz Sound System (DVJ), DJ Shadow, Apollo 440, Grandmaster Flash and Andy C & MC GQ (need order approving by Charmeko).  And what better location to experience it than Burgas city beach, with stunning views of the Black Sea coastline, stretching over 20km.  No mud, rain or cold - its sun, sea and sand all the way!

UNKLE recording with Nick Cave

Having recently released their fifth studio album WHERE DID THE NIGHT FALL in May 2010, UNKLE are already planning how their next album will sound. James Lavelle and Pablo Clements announced that they will be feature guest stars among which will be the icon Nick Cave.

Cave and Lavelle united while Lavelle was curating an exhibition which featured photographs by Polly Borland, who has snapped the goth rocker for most of his career. The album will be called DAY FALL and it will be released in the beginning of 2011

UNKLE will play Live at the MAIN STAGE of SPIRIT of Burgas on 14th of Aug.

UNKLE are the newest addition to the line-up of the main stage on 14th August

On Saturday night UNLKE will perform at the largest summer sea festival in the Balkans with an exclusive live show on the main stage at SPIRIT  of Burgas.

London experimentalists James Lavelle and Tim Goldsworthy will take to the stage with a full live band for an exclusive, never before seen show. The musicians performing with them will consist of the multi-instrumentalists Joel Cadbury, Pablo Clements and James Griffith, drummer Michael Lowry and Gavin Clark on vocals. UNKLE’s show will also include video and lighting effects creating an exciting audio and sensory  experience not to be missed.

We are excited to welcome you as our guest at the festival, have you been to Bulgaria or the Black Sea Coast before?

Katie P : "Hello! I have never been before and I am really excited!"
 
Have you been to a festival on a beach before?

Katie P : "I haven't actually. My current job with Trident Gum is to travel to 30 different festivals around the world and I think that I am most looking forward to the beach ones!"
 
What are your expectations of the festival?  Have you heard anything about it before?

EVERLAST, WINNER OF A “GRAMMY”, shall be the SPIRIT FROM A BOTTLE released on Saturday night at SPIRIT OF BURGAS

Everlast, the former frontman of House of Pain is set to raise the heat at Burgas central beach on the main stage.

House of Pain was a great band. And its frontman is even greater - being able to seriously quake the ground, wherever he passes. Everlast aka Erik Schrody is affixing his signature over tracks of an inimitable sound style.

Hip Hop is the foundation of his sound, but for his solo project he is erecting over it elements of alternative, rock, American folk and sometimes blues, in a way only he can do.

LEGENDARY HIP HOP PIONEER GRANDMASTER FLASH TO PERFORM AT FINAL NIGHT OF SPIRIT OF BURGAS 2010

On the last night of SPIRIT of Burgas 2010 Hip Hop pioneer Grandmaster Flash will bring to the main stage after midnight with a Kaleidoscopic mash-up of contagious hip hop rhythms until dawn. Also performing at the festival finale will be the Gorillaz Sound System with their amazing audio visual DVJ show and Serj Tankian from System of A Down who are joint headliners.

The Stranglers will not play at SPIRIT of Burgas 2010

It is with deep regret that due to circumstances beyond their control The Stranglers will not be able to  perform at the Spirit of Burgas festival this August. The band have encoutered unforseen complications in being able to meet the scheduling of this show and thank the organisers for their understanding of this situation. This decision has nothing whatsoever to do with the Spirt of Burgas Festival organisers and the band would welcome the offer to play the festival in the near future and wish the organisers every success for this forthcoming summer's event.

THE PRODIGY & GORILLAZ SOUND SYSTEM (DVJ) – HEAD-LINERS OF SPIRIT OF BURGAS 2010!

The wish of many of you will come true and The Prodigy will be one of the big names that  confirmed their acts on this year SPIRIT of Burgas. They will be  head-liners of the main stage in the first festival evening, warmed-up by Apollo 440. Next on stage will appear DJ Andy C and MC GQ (Ram Records // UK), thanks to the biggest drum and bass promoters in the country - H.M.S.U.
DJ Shadow will be one of special guests for the second evening and for the final festival night the team of SPIRIT Of Burgas  will present the long awaited Gorillaz Sound System (DVJ) and Serj Tankian of System of a Down fame.

The preparations for the third edition of SPIRIT of Burgas are already in full motion.

This year the festival is not only getting one year older, but is also growing in shape and importance.

We know the curiosity of journalists and the public is constantly growing and we will answer all the important questions at the official press conference in the City of Burgas on April 27, 2010.
